How much cheaper will it be to fly VIVA Macau versus other airlines operating from Macau International Airport?
VIVA Macau is a value-for-money airline and we aim to have highly competitive fares against leading full service airlines in Asia. Also, VIVA Macau aims to open routes to new international markets that are currently unserved or underserved from Macau, so it often won't be possible to directly compare our fares against those of other airlines. Where will VIVA Macau fly to?
We aim to inaugurate non-stop services to Jakarta, Indonesia and Male, Maldives in our first phase of commercial operations. Those two routes will be followed by services to Sydney, Australia and the Middle East by the beginning of 2007. As VIVA Macau expands our fleet next year, we will add cities in North Asia, Southeast Asia, and select cities in Europe to our network.
What kind of planes does VIVA Macau fly?
VIVA Macau flies a single-aircraft-type fleet of modern Boeing 767 wide-body jetliners, capable of flying to points as far away as 12-13 hours from Macau.
How many aircraft does VIVA Macau have?
VIVA Macau will launch operations with two modern Boeing 767 wide-body aircraft, both acquired through operating leases with AWAS, one of the world's leading aircraft leasing and trading companies. We are working to expand the fleet as quickly as possible through the acquisition of additional Boeing 767 aircraft. Within five years, VIVA Macau expects to have a fleet of up to 15 aircraft.
What does wide-body aircraft mean? How does that differ from the aircraft that other airlines fly?
A wide-body aircraft has a wider fuselage, or tube, than a narrow-body aircraft, meaning that it gives passengers a wider cabin and a larger feeling of space. The easiest way to tell if you are flying in a wide-body aircraft is to count the number of aisles there are – two aisles means you're flying a wide-body, one-aisle means you're in a narrow-body. ??The other big difference between wide-body and narrow-body planes is in the amount of space in the belly-hold that's available to carry freight. VIVA Macau's Boeing 767 jetliners can carry as much as 10 to 15 tonnes of freight, while narrow-bodies like the Airbus A320 or the Boeing 737 can carry only 1 tonne after passenger baggage is accounted for. That's a huge advantage for VIVA Macau. We're based in Macau in southern China, a booming economic region which produces one-third of China's manufactured exports.
How many seats will your aircraft have?
Our initial Boeing 767 wide-body aircraft comes in two configurations – the first aircraft will have 210 seats, while the second aircraft will have 245 seats. Both aircraft will have two cabins with a mix of premium and economy class seating.
Who does the maintenance on your aircraft?
VIVA Macau has a Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) partnership with Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Co (GAMECO), a leading international aircraft maintenance contractor. GAMECO (www.gameco.com.cn) is a joint venture between China Southern Airlines Co and Hutchison Whampoa (China) Ltd based at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, providing line maintenance, base maintenance, component repair and overhaul and engineering services for more than 25 international airlines. The partnership between VIVA Macau and GAMECO will help ensure an outstanding standard of professionalism and reliability from VIVA Macau's fleet of Boeing 767 wide-body airliners.
Who is Andrew Pyne?
VIVA Macau Chief Executive Andrew Pyne is the Founder and Chief Dreamer of VIVA Macau. Until 2004, Andrew was head of International Affairs and Alliances for Cathay Pacific Airways, one of Asia's most successful airlines. In the 80's, Andrew served with the Hong Kong Government, where he was Chief Air Services Negotiator and spearheaded aviation policy liberalization. Prior to coming to Asia, Andrew worked with British Airways.
Who is Mr Ngan In Leng?
VIVA Macau Chairman Ngan In Leng is a well-known businessman and philanthropist in Macau and China. He is active as a leader of Macau's large ethnic Fujianese community and is chairman of the Goddess A-Ma Foundation of Macau. Mr Ngan is also Vice Chairman of the Economic Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, China's top political advisory body.
